THE STORY BEHIND

THE LENS

On Pointe Photography grew from a father photographing his daughter's dance school. Eighteen years on, that little dancer — Elise — has since gone on to build her own photography career, inspired by years in front of and behind the lens.

Steve brings nearly two decades of specialist dance photography experience to every shoot — knowing instinctively how dance moves, and exactly when to press the shutter to capture the moment that matters.

Steve McCrum · Founder & Lead Photographer

Steve got his first SLR at 21 with absolutely no idea what he was doing — but he took it everywhere anyway. His first professional course came in 2006 in Bournemouth, covering weddings and studio work, and he started shooting weddings shortly after.

In 2007, he was asked to photograph his daughter's dance school — and that changed everything. What began as a favour became a specialism, and that specialism grew into a career spanning theatres, competitions, studios and locations across four continents.

In 2016, Steve added sports photography to his world — starting with the Ironman in Weymouth before being invited to Dubai to shoot the Ironman there and the Dubai Marathon. He has since worked across Europe, Africa, The Middle and Far East as well as USA.

All shot on Nikon. His favourite lens? His cheapest — the 85mm prime. Sometimes the simplest tools tell the best stories.

NEARLY TWO DECADES OF GETTING THE SHOT

A man and woman stand back to back, smiling, against a dark gray background. The man is bald, wearing a black T-shirt, and has tattoos on his arms. The woman has long blonde hair, a nose piercing, and tattoos on her arms, wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.

FATHER & DAUGHTER TEAM

On Pointe Photography grew from a father photographing his daughter's dance school. Eighteen years on, that little dancer — Elise — has since picked up a camera herself and gone on to build her own photography career.

Between them they bring something rare: a photographer who has spent nearly two decades learning exactly how dance moves, and a former dancer who knows instinctively how to get the best from every performer in front of the lens.
